Another test
Simone had another appointment at a different doctor today. They would do a blood test and an ultrasound to look for Down Syndrom. I wanted to be there, too. I wanted to be involved and hope that I was allowed to be part of it. We met at the doctor’s practice. Simone had to fill out some paperwork first – then it was our turn. I was allowed to come inside and to watch the test.
They started with an ultrasound test. The nurse could not see the baby and Simone was told to ‘empty her bladder’. After that was done – the show could resume. Suddenly we saw the ‘little one’. The baby was pretty busy turning around and moving. We could even see the little fingers of one hand when it moved. That was soo cooool. Unbelieveable. This was soo exciting. For the first time I could see my little baby. Simone had the first ultrasound a few weeks ago – but she was fascinated and excited, too. Luckily – the little one refused a little bit to show what the nurse was looking for. So, we had about 20 minutes live entertainment. The nurse had to wake up the baby at one point – it had fallen asleep. How cute was that?!
The ultrasounds looked good – no sign of Down Syndrom. The nurse gave us 4 printouts of our baby to take home.
The nurse left and got the doctor to verify the results. The doctor had no problems coming to the same result. She also informed us about the risk factors and percentages and what possible outcomes of the test could be. We were then released to get the blood test done. This was less exciting.
But it needed to be done and 10 minutes later we were good to go.
We were extremely excited. Seeing our baby moving and being active – that was so unreal, but fascinating and satisfying. It felt soo good. We headed back to work. It was a very good day.
