36 weeks – Well, maybe not …
This Friday morning we had another routine doctor’s visit for Simone and the baby. The day started out fine. We both had taken the day off from work to finish the final preparations for the baby. This would include some additional shopping and then packing the bags and taking care of a few other things. Well, final was something else today.
The doctor decided to do one more ultrasound on Simone and the baby. His discoveries were very concerning and before we knew what was going on the doctor said:
“I want you to go to the hospital NOW. It’s time to have a baby. He needs to come out.”
Wow. Slow down. We were mentally just not ready for this. The doctor had discovered that the baby had apparently lost a little weight from last week and also that the embryonic fluid was down to 50% of where it should be. It looked like the placenta was no longer able to feed the baby, too.
Suddenly we were on our way to the hospital just one block north of the where the doctor had his office. Luckily we had already turned in our hospital registration a few weeks ago and the admission process was painless and quick. And before we knew it we were on the 3rd floor where all the babies are born.
