Embryonic Fluid Test
While I was gone Simone was hooked up to an IV to assure proper hydration. She was in good spirits. I gave her my ‘report’ and assisted with a couple of things. After a short while a nurse came to get Simone to bring her to the Ultrasound room. The specialist would do another ultrasound to give a final diagnosis. We were very nervous ….
The ultrasound started and the results were confirming what Simone’s OB had diagnosed in the morning. The specialist recommend to get an embryonic fluid test to get even more detailed results. This test is basically a needle that goes into the belly and then they pull some embryonic fluid from it. The test can tell if the lungs of the baby are fully developed or not. The test carries a risk for the baby and that made us even more nervous. Even though the risk level is small – it still poses a risk.
We discussed the issue and came to the conclusion that it would be very helpful to know the state of the fluid and the baby. Simone had to sign papers again to void liability of the doctor. The test was done and everything went well. We would have to wait 40-50 minutes for the results. Very nervous we went back to Simone’s delivery room and waited. I stepped out of the room to inform our friend who was waiting in one of the waiting rooms.
