We got a “Go”

The test results came in. It looked like that the baby’s lungs were fully developed. The specialist had mentioned that her opinion was that this baby would have to be delivered by C-Section. “This baby is not made for a vaginal delivery.” Simone’s OB decided to induce labor and to try a vaginal birth. I thought that would be kind of strange. First they rush you to the hospital and then they take the time to induce labor?

Inducing labor is a process not as fast as most people think. We asked about how this would work and it would take hours for the first contractions to come in. We put our trust into the doctors and nurses and were hoping for the best. The nurse came in and hooked up Simone to another IV. This IV was Pitocin - a hormone that fools the body into thinking that it is time to start the contractions. The Pitocin was added to the regular IV and the whole thing started with a very low level.

Simone was also hooked up to a fetal monitor and a monitor that would keep track of the contractions. The waiting had begun. After 3-4 hours the first minor contractions were rolling in. Simone did use the Lamaze breathing technique to keep the pain under control. So far she was doing great and had things under control. But this would change some time soon.
