He’s here.

In the surgery room the C-section was performed by a team of doctors and nurses. They were in good mood and made a few jokes to ease up the situation. I was seated right next to Simone’s head. I was holding her hand and was partially able to see what the doctors were doing. It took about 10 minutes for them to get to the baby. They pulled the baby out and I could see that the baby had the cord around his neck. Well, that explained the problems during the contractions. The baby started crying and the feeling of relief was unbelievable for us. Logan Zachary was born.

We had discussed this before everything started. I left Simone and walked over to the nurse that had taken over the baby. I was (symbolically) allowed to cut the cord and the nurse took a picture of it. She had already placed an oxygen mask next to Logan. While the nurse did her thing by cleaning him and doing the initial APGAR testing/scoring I was taking pictures and also reported to Simone what was going on. After about 7 minutes Logan was wrapped into towels and I was allowed to bring him over to Simone. I placed him in her arms and she was able to welcome him. Due to the C-section still in progress she could only have him for a 2-3 minutes. I took Logan back to the nurse and together we brought Logan into the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) because he was born 4 weeks early. It is a precaution the hospital took to make sure that the baby is taken care off properly. If he would pass the necessary tests Logan would be admitted to the regular nursery later on.
