We're having a baby ...

Thank you for visiting our pregnancy blog (web log). In late August of 2004 we found out that we would be first time parents soon. As we have tried to become pregnant for a very long time this was extremely exciting news for us. We like to share this excitement and our own experiences with pregnancy and started this blog. Join us on our journey through pregnancy and beyond.

The baby is in trouble …

April 9th, 2005

The contractions become stronger over the next hour but then suddenly dropped off when the nurse increased the level of Pitocin in the IV. For 2 hours nothing happened. No contractions, no nothing. Then the contractions came back after the Pitocin dose was increased again. They became powerful and Simone and I discussed the option of getting an epidural. Simone felt the pain but was a little bit afraid of an epidural.

We got a “Go”

The test results came in. It looked like that the baby’s lungs were fully developed. The specialist had mentioned that her opinion was that this baby would have to be delivered by C-Section. “This baby is not made for a vaginal delivery.” Simone’s OB decided to induce labor and to try a vaginal birth. I thought that would be kind of strange. First they rush you to the hospital and then they take the time to induce labor?

Embryonic Fluid Test

While I was gone Simone was hooked up to an IV to assure proper hydration. She was in good spirits. I gave her my ‘report’ and assisted with a couple of things. After a short while a nurse came to get Simone to bring her to the Ultrasound room. The specialist would do another ultrasound to give a final diagnosis. We were very nervous ….

At the hospital

April 8th, 2005

So, here we are at the 3rd floor - labor and delivery. Simone, my wife got admitted to a room and asked to change clothes into one of those strange looking shirts you see on the movies. Then we had to wait for the nurse to come in. While waiting we created a list of things my wife would need from home. We had not even time to pack our bags yet. That was actually part of the final preparation that now never happened. When the nurse arrived Simone had to sign a couple of papers.

36 weeks - Well, maybe not …

This Friday morning we had another routine doctor’s visit for Simone and the baby. The day started out fine. We both had taken the day off from work to finish the final preparations for the baby. This would include some additional shopping and then packing the bags and taking care of a few other things. Well, final was something else today.
