We're having a baby ...

Thank you for visiting our pregnancy blog (web log). In late August of 2004 we found out that we would be first time parents soon. As we have tried to become pregnant for a very long time this was extremely exciting news for us. We like to share this excitement and our own experiences with pregnancy and started this blog. Join us on our journey through pregnancy and beyond.

Here is our story of having a baby.

Best regards,

35 weeks ….

April 2nd, 2005

We reached the 35 week mark on Friday. Yeah. :) We also had a doctor’s appointment the same day. Things are looking good. The baby is growing on good average-wise from visit to visit. However – overall the baby is lagging about 400 grams behind. Meaning – the baby’s weight is 400 grams short for the 35th week compared to other babies. As you might remember – we had mentioned the small baby issue earlier in this blog already. However – we are not as concerned anymore as we were at the very beginning when the practicioning nurse had scared us. Babies tend to grow much faster once they come out anyway and a small baby is easier to deliver, too. One of our neighbors had told us that her son was born with just 5 lbs and a few ounces and the little boy is doing just fine. And last but not least – we live in 6,000 ft. altitude (Colorado). High altitude babies tend to be a little smaller anyway compared to babies born at sea-level.

The Stroller

March 25th, 2005

We did it. We bought a stroller for our little one Wednesday night. We had to go to Babies R us anyway to update our registry with them. A few weeks ago we had received the Babies R us coupon booklet and it had coupons for strollers, too. Tonight we will take the stroller out of the box and assemble it (whatever there will be to assemble).

Breast Feeding Class

March 22nd, 2005

We went to a breast feeding class last night. When we got there I was the only male around and felt a little uncomfortable. The teacher broke the ice very easily and just a minute or two after that 2 other couples walked in. I don’t know how common it is for man to attend breast feeding classes but I think it will be helpful that I was there. There are a lot of things a partner can do to help the breast feeding Mom when time comes. Having a baby puts a lot of stress onto Mom and she can use every helpful hand that is available.

OB appointment

March 20th, 2005

Amazing how fast time is flying by for us. It is already 2 weeks ago that we had the last doctors appointment. We had another bi-weekly appointment this Friday (3-18-2005). The OB was very relaxed when reading my wife’s charts and files. It seems like that this eased his mind on the baby’s growth. Yes, the baby is on the smaller side but the growth seems to be very consistent and that’s what he was looking for. I assume that this fact just slipped through the cracks the last time. Simone had also heard from her Mom that most family members that had babies, had apparently small babies when they were born. This really eased our mind and we felt much more confident that everything will be Ok.

It is getting difficult ….

March 18th, 2005

We had an appointment with a different pediatrician yesterday. Man, this is getting tough to decide on. Two different personalities, two different practices but apparently two really good doctors (at least from what we can tell). We will probably have to flip a coin to make a decision. This second pediatrician was a little more outgoing and open compared to the first one. With the first one we had the impression that she needs a moment to warm or at least that first visit to open up. But she made a very dedicated impression (and so does the second one, too).
