We're having a baby ...

Thank you for visiting our pregnancy blog (web log). In late August of 2004 we found out that we would be first time parents soon. As we have tried to become pregnant for a very long time this was extremely exciting news for us. We like to share this excitement and our own experiences with pregnancy and started this blog. Join us on our journey through pregnancy and beyond.

Here is our story of having a baby.

Best regards,

Christoph & Simone Puetz

Choosing a pediatrician

March 17th, 2005

All pregnancy books recommend to visit a pediatrician before you have a baby. These books recommend to interview the pediatrician and find out if the chemistry between you and the pediatrician matches. Well, we did just that yesterday and that felt really weird. We walked into the practice of a pediatrician yesterday – with no child. Every mom in the waiting area looked at us really strange. “What do those people with no child want in here?” – we could read this question from their eyes. But when they realized that we were pregnant it seemed to help. We let the receptionist know that we had an appointment and got asked to sit down for a few moments. A mother with a 2 year old was sitting next to us. She broke the ice by asking if we would know what we were expecting. She was very friendly and we chatted with her for a while. Her little one was very active. :) A really cute child with a really nice name: Hunter Lewis

All is good again.

March 15th, 2005

Simone felt much better last night already. Her appetite increased dramatically since yesterday morning. We decided this morning that she should not go for her morning walk with Aspen our dog. It had snowed yesterday and the streets were extremely icy. So, I went for a walk with Aspen. Simone used the additional time for a good breakfast. She felt good enough to go back to work. We are both very happy that she is feeling better now. It was kind of scary yesterday and the thoughts of taking her to the hospital had crossed my mind several times.

Sick!!!

March 14th, 2005

We had dinner last night. Cheese Fondue. About 30 minutes after dinner Simone felt really sick suddenly. Her stomach started acting up. She took a Maalox but that did not help. She decided to go to bed early hoping that sleeping would help. I helped her to bed and went downstairs to work on this website. I heard her getting up and running to the bathroom. She had to throw up really bad. That was not good. I helped getting back to bed and then got a few more bottles of water for her. I did not wanted to take any chances. She would have to prevent dehydration. Simone agreed on that part. I stayed about 15 minutes at her side and helped where needed to feel her comfortable again. I went back downstairs. A few minutes later she had to vomit again. She went back to bed. It must have really hurt. She could not even lay straight down. I gave her a few pillows to make her sit comfortable on the bed and covered her with the blanket. We discussed if we should get her to the hospital or at least call the doctor.

Like a rock(ing chair)

March 9th, 2005

We went to Babies R us the other day to look at Rocking Chairs. There are quite some nice ones out there. But these things can get really expensive. So, we went to the (local) Burlington Coat Factory store. They have a huge baby stuff department – including furniture. They’re rocking chairs were not as nice as the ones at Babies R us. Back to Babies R us but we just could not decide which one to get and we left. The next day we went shopping at the Wal-Mart Super Center. And they have a rocking chair model for sale, too. The showroom model fit our baby room furniture perfectly and so I lifted it from the shelf (why would you place a ‘chair’ on the top shelf if you want to sell it?).

The baby boy is small – too small?

March 4th, 2005

The baby is small – too small?

We had another OB doctors appointment today. The appointment started with an ultrasound session. The ultrasound technician had some problems determine the baby’s size. Since a software upgrade they had done to the ultrasound machine about 6 weeks ago they seemed to have problems with this thing. We have not been able to recognize anything on the pictures since then. I wonder how the technician wants to see anything?! Anyway – the ultrasound technician said that everything looked Ok. We went back to the waiting area to see the doctor. The doctor was out sick and so we met the practicioning nurse. She came into the room without having looked at Simone’s file and started flying through the ultrasound pictures and the history of Simone’s pregnancy. Then she said something that concerned us a lot. We should not be worried about the baby’s size and if necessary they would go and get him out early. We were stunned. What?! Nobody had mentioned anything before that our baby was small. A baby does not turns out to be small within 2 weeks and falls of the chart. What the heck was going on?
